Experience
Ciao a tutti! I'm a strategist by day and italian tutor by night (and day too haha) who just moved to Los Angeles. I was born and raised in the South of Italy, but I moved to New York City when I was 18 years old to go to college. Back in Italy I used to give private English lessons. I have always had a flair for languages, especially for English. I have never been scared of talking to anyone in English. I've been studying English ever since I was six years old, but it wasn't so much the studying done at school that helped me improve. It was my innate passion and desire to learn outside of class through watching movies, listening to songs, and reading books in English, that made me so proficient in the language. I also speak Spanish, French, and I am learning Chinese. When I moved to New York City, various friends of mine who were taking Italian classes in college asked me for help. I was so happy to help them and to see the level of improvement they reached. I have helped everyone at every level and of any age, from very beginner to somewhat proficient, teenagers to adults. Eventually, one of the adults I used to give lessons to asked me to teach Italian to his kids from scratch. I took on that challenge in a heartbeat. It was so amazing to see their improvement and so sad to move to LA at the same time because of that, but we keep in touch with weekly Skype sessions! They have improved so much, but, most importantly, they are not scared of trying to speak to me in Italian anymore. Initially, I could tell they understood the grammar, but they were afraid of talking to me in Italian. However, I was eventually able to instill in them the same confidence and lack of fear of making mistakes while communicating in Italian that I used to have when I was little and learning English. We learn by making mistakes, and, in languages, the only way to make mistakes is to actually engage in conversation. I genuinely enjoy helping people and see how they improve. This especially true with teaching Italian because I am from Italy and it gives me joy to be able to share my culture with others, while also learning about theirs! Can't wait to get on this journey together! A presto.
