Experience

SPECIAL: First student to sign up for tutoring with me, gets the first session completely free of charge! THE BASICS: I am 28 years old and recently moved to Santa Monica from my native Washington, DC. As I am new to tutoring and working to establish myself and gain clients, my rates are very competitive at $20/hour. Please don't let my tutoring inexperience be a deterrent. I am intelligent, determined, responsible, easy to talk to, and will be a very dedicated tutor to your child. Let's try one session together and see if it's a good fit! MY STYLE: I am friendly, fun, patient, relatable and kind, and I enjoy the company of young people. I will come from a place of understanding and encouragement when working with students to get past the frustration and gain confidence while starting to grasp concepts. RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: My experience in education includes four years in Product Development at an e-learning company (everfi.com) from 2010-2014. I helped create online learning programs that teach key life skills (e.g. financial literacy, entrepreneurship, digital responsibility) to middle and high school students in an engaging, straightforward and "real" way. As part of the process, I led focus groups with students (7th-12th) and encouraged them to give honest critiques and thoughtful insights on how to make our "Beta" programs better before the release. I also have volunteer experience (August 2014) as an Assistant Teacher for 3-5 year olds at a progressive arts day camp. TUTORING - MY SUBJECT AREA STRENGTHS: --Writing (all levels) --English (all levels) --Job/Internship Readiness (high school, college) - Building a resume, writing a cover letter, interview preparation and follow up, how to impress on the job, maintaining professional relationships over time, etc. --College Readiness (high school) - Application organization, essay writing, interviews, stress management, social adjustments, etc. --Finding Your Study Style - Ways to study, tips for test preparation and paper-writing, organization *I'm open to discussing other tutoring needs not listed above. I will be honest about whether or not I feel confident in working in other areas with your child or if another tutor may be better suited. SAT SCORE: 1440 (out of 1600) 770 (Verbal) 670 (Math)
