Education

Currently a PhD student working on Research in the LA-area. Graduated from Indiana University with a MA in Comparative Literature. Graduated from Hampshire College in 2014 with a BA in Literature and Critical Theory.

Experience

As a current graduate student working toward a PhD, I have years of experience as both a student and a teacher. In constantly moving between these roles, I have cultivated a keen awareness of the dynamics of learning and the collaborative effort needed to sustain students' talents and growths alongside tutors or teachers. I am a poet, scholar, artist, and all around creative intellectual with an enthusiastic attitude and relaxed demeanor in any and all learning environments. I have tutored high school, college, and graduate students in both academic (expository and analytical) and creative writing, as well as in critical and literary reading. I have taught Swahili and worked to create syllabi for the mentored Swahili language program at the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages in Amherst, MA (while writing an instructional Swahili text for the same program). However, I am also proficient in Spanish and Japanese, so I am adept at working with students in the study of foreign languages as a native English speakers. My primary areas of research are history, philosophy, literature, media, culture, and art; though I am a confident resource for anthropology and geography as well. I hold a perfect GPA (4.0) in both my past undergraduate and current graduate studies. Aside from my academic background, I have worked as a peer counselor and community advocate. Although I found this work critical and rewarding, I really love tutoring more than anything else because it gives me the opportunity to really collaborate with students in a way that is not possible in a usual classroom setting. My students are able to ask difficult questions and reflect on their learning processes/study habits while I work to adapt my skills to their personality and unique talents. In effect, we learn from one another and produce new and creative grounds for education.
